Ontonagon Trail Report – 12/02

Our groomers were out yesterday, last night and again today. Before they can actually begin the “grooming” everything has to be panned to start building the base.

To cover our 138 miles of trail this takes several days/nights and for now, we are not on any set schedule. Trails that were panked down yesterday had a chance to freeze overnight. That is a good thing. We will keep you posted on when our regular schedule begins.

We do have snowmobilers in the area-and the report back to us was where the groomers had been-trail nice, water in one area reported but it wasn’t bad and not a problem. Even tho we started getting our snow 2 weeks ago, we are still dealing with “early season conditions.” All gates were opened yesterday and some clearing of downed trees was taken care of.

It is the vote of our Groomer Operators that again this year they are going to volunteer their time. We are so fortunate to not only have them as volunteers but they are all very dedicated in grooming the best job they can for you. Since our club originated in 1998 the volunteering has enabled our club to build 2 groomer barns. The first 7 years all of the machines had to sit outside and when maintenance or repair had to be done there were some really nasty weather conditions to deal with. Soooooooo, it is a big thumbs up to our volunteer Groomer Operators, volunteer maintenance & repairing, volunteer snow plowing around the groomer barns and not to be overlooked is the tons of paper work that is required by the DNR.

Have a FUN and SAFE snowmobiling season.
