Michigan Trail Report

Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 12/18

We could not be asking for better conditions to get our trails into great shape than what we’ve been receiving. We’ve had lots of very cold temperatures to freeze up the wet areas and we’ve had almost non-stop snow over the last week! Plus the weather conditions forecast for the next 10 days show more of the same.

All trails have been groomed and are being groomed as often as we can cover them with two groomers (yes, we’re still awaiting the arrival of new groomer #3).

Trail conditions have been upgraded from fair to good in most areas. This is very good news for the busy upcoming week of Christmas to New Years that we always experience up here.

Now, this is where I remind you to – please – give the groomers the right of way. It’s much more difficult to pull a stuck groomer out than it is to pull a snowmobile out and they can’t just drive through anything as might be believed. And, of course, please stay on marked trails. Riding in unmarked areas can result in; 1) losing a granted easement, 2) getting a ticket and/or 3) hitting an object hidden in the snow, none of which we want to see happen.

***Also be mindful that a bridge on trail 8, just east of Bergland is out and it is marked. The trail will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake where the trail was a couple years ago.

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. I will keep you posted as often as conditions change. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit the only official website of the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). Looking forward to seeing you all up again soon!
