Michigan Trail Report

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/16

Things are shaping up. Since Friday we have received around 5" of new snow. Our temps are a bit warmer this week with the high on Wednesday being 24 degrees. Our nights are still cold so this will keep things firm. Snow is in the forecast for today with 2" of new snow expected. Over all conditions are good but don’t be surprised if you run into some wet and icy spots. Please ride safe!!!!

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Reports grooming is ongoing. Trail 2 is groomed and is in good condition. The part of trail 2 with was closed this past weekend is now open. The logging is done. Trail 8 is groomed and is in good condition. Trail 160 is groomed but expect some rough spots, we need more snow on this trail. Trail llN groomers are going to attempt to groom it today. We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Groomers have been out with the drags. All trails are packed down with the exception of part of trail 13S. The good news is the wet spots are firming up with all the cold weather we have had. Watch for signs posted on the bridge out on Trail 8, east of Bergland, it will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake. This is marked so use caution in this area.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Groomers went out and are reporting all trails are in good condition, with the exception of a few wet spots so please caution riding.

Please keep in mind the groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
