Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 02/15

Here is our forecast for today and tomorrow.
LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST /NOON CST/ SATURDAY…

LIGHT LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY THIS MORNING AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

* PLAN ON TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 10 TO 18 INCHES ACROSS NORTHWEST GOGEBIC AND WESTERN ONTONAGON COUNTIES… WITH THE HIGHEST TOTALS FROM WAKEFIELD NORTH AND EAST TO WHITE PINE AND BERGLAND… INCLUDING THE PORCUPINE MOUNTAINS. EXPECT 6 TO 10 INCHES AROUND ONTONAGON AND IRONWOOD… BUT ONLY 3 TO 5 INCHES NEAR WATERSMEET.

Temps will be in the teens Friday and Saturday and will warm up to the 20’s on Sunday. We have plenty of snow for riding so come out and enjoy the winter!!!!

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: All trails are groomed and are in good to very good conditions. Grooming will be on going this weekend so looks like a great time to ride. Take advantage of the scenic lookouts overlooking Lake Superior on trail 160. Signs are posted…enjoy the beauty this area has to offer.

The Lake Gogebic groomers report: All trails are in good condition. All groomers are out running continuously on all trails to keep them in the best possible shape. PLEASE REMEMBER TO PULL OVER IF YOU SEE A GROOMER. THEY HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY…
Just a reminder the Bergland Mobil gas station has closed, so plan your fueling accordingly.

The Watersmeet groomers report: All trails are groomed every night. Trails are in good to very good conditions. Trails are in peak condition! Have a great long weekend..

Keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by.

Please be careful on corners as you know several Michigan Trail signs have been discontinued. These signs are posted on our trail map. PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!
