Grand Marais Trail Report – Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. – 02/21

What a fun weekend in Grand Marais! Everyone came UP to enjoy our snow. With a ton of snowmobilers buzzing around and the UP200 Dog Sled races coming into town twice, things were bustling everywhere! This was a much needed shot in the arm for our little town, thank you to everyone and a special thanks to the snowmobilers for being such good sports about the sled dog race. The trails are still in good to great condition [and now you can check out the two tracks and back trails that the dogs used ; -) ]. We still have a nice, flat base on the trails and anywhere from 10 to 20 inches of snow in the woods. It got warm and sunny on Sunday and there was a south breeze blowing yesterday so in town is getting bare. Groomers report good snow to work with on the trails and only a few spots of snirt/dirt. The weather guru’s are calling for mild temperatures during the day and cold at night, heck, they say we may even get some fresh snow this week. They aren’t calling for much but every little bit helps! I’ll keep an eye on the weather and let you know what’s UP.

We will continue with our revised grooming schedule to include tandem grooming on each route until Thursday to keep those trails in tiptop shape. So, if you see one groomer, watch for a second! And please stop and wait for the operator to signal that it is safe to proceed! Loggers are going to be cutting just off #443 south of the Hardie Grade (toward #431) starting this week. They aren’t going to have logging trucks in there but they will open about a 1/4 mile of trail for access to the harvest area. Keep an eye out for vehicles and logging equipment – the area will be signed.

Mark your calendars:

We are working on a fund raiser breakfast for St. Patty’s Day (March 17th). I’ll post details as they come together.

We are also in the early stages of another fund raiser on the 4th of July or during the Music Festival in August.

If you can help out with any of them, let me know!

10/13/2012 ~ Fall Trail Maintenance, dinner, and kick-off meeting for next season.

As always, ride safe and bring them home alive. Please Don’t Drink and Ride!
