December 13, 2016 — 18 degrees this morning and a snowing an blowing!!! Picked up a solid couple inches last night. Looking at the radar though its just a lake effect band coming through. Hopefully more will develop, the wind is WNW so this is good…..OK enough of being a weather guesser.

We still have only about 6 inches on the ground so just can`t recommend coming UP yet. You could get some miles on if you stayed on the high ground but you`ll hit alot of dirt and sticks and such. We haven`t rolled out the groomers yet,we need a solid foot on the ground before we do that and we still have alittle work to do on them. I am runnin to Newberry this morning to chase down the last of the parts we need. We`ve got a crew together to maybe head out with them at the end of the week as long as Old Man Winter keeps cooperating. Sooooo….be patient…..I`ll let ya`ll know when its all good. This is the Keweenaw Snowmobile Trail System Report for Tuesday, December 13, 2016.

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and in fair condition.

You will not be able to cross the Portage Lift Bridge until between December 15-18th. Please watch for updates regarding the bridge here.

Trail 122 is closed for logging. You can use Trail 124 to get to Gay.

Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there are wet spots, rocks, stumps, branches, and other hazards that have not been identified.

Please remember to watch out for the groomers when your’re out on the trails. They have the right away.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for riders’ safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.

Snowfall in the Keweenaw Peninsula – 22 inches of snow on the ground, 53 inches fallen to date as of 12/13/16.

Saturday: 60% chance of snow with 1-3 inches expected, high, 16, low 1
