Paradise Area Trail Report – 12/17

December 17, 2017

15 degrees this morning, cloudy and breezy outa the south. Not much new snow the last couple of days either. Its supposed to warm up the next few days but not too serious, maybe into the mid 30`s during the day and below freezing at night….suppose we can deal with that. They are watching a storm coming in by this Thursday though, lets hope this stays on track!! Alot went on yesterday so get comfy and I`ll tell you the story….

We had a guy from South Carolina come into town, his name is Ed Sabo and he has a place here. He got ahold of me and asked what he could do to help. Well….I told him I was taking off towards town to set the north and south loop trails #8 and #45 from the barn to town and then set the town trail. He said sure and rode along with me to help clear any brush or trees down. We didn`t get far before we realized the heat didn`t work in the groomer….man….we froze our butts off by the time we turned around and headed back to the barn!! It was only 10 degrees out at that time. We were out in the parking lot of the barn dinking around with it to see whats wrong and 2 guys pulled up on their sleds. They told us they were both mechanics and offered help….WAY COOL!!!! Their names are Andy and Ryan, wish I would have got their last names. Anyways, they got to working on that groomer and me and Ed took the only other operational groomer to finish our mission. Side note…..groomer Mike was in the barn working on the other groomer that had a cracked thermastat cover. Me and Ed got our thing done and while at the barn refueling Andy and Ryan showed up to tell us what was wrong with the first machine. Long story short, they got it "yooper rigged" so we have heat now but have to order parts. A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to you two!!!!!!!! BTW, they said they`ll be back up in a couple weeks and put the new parts in.

OK. Got home after a long day and was looking at the Night Riders FB page and had a message. Two guys, Neil Murphy and Shawn Capenos, took it upon them selves and cleared the ENTIRE length of trail #8 to Pine Stump….thats darn near 40 miles!!!!!! To tell you the truth that brought a tear to my eyes!! What a relief to know thats done. SUPER JOB Neil and Shawn!!!!!! THANK YOU….THANK YOU!!!!

Soooo….here`s whats going on today. Groomer Jack and his wife Renee are heading out on the Pine Stump trail to fix signs. The plan was for them to clear trees today but thanks to Neil and Shawn they get the easier job! Then Monday we are rounding up a crew to groom that trail.

OK, thats it for today. Keep checking back and I`ll keep you informed. Lets hope this storm bears right down on us!!!! LET ER SNOW!!!!

Groomer Chris

Ontonagon Trail Report – Scott’s Superior Inn – 12/17

This past weekend we had a fair amount of sleds on our trails which helped us pack, but also made it very hard for water holes to freeze, there are a couple of big ones east Of Ontonagon on trail 12, and quite a few smaller ones elsewhere, trail#137 is still closed due to culvert failure but we are looking at a reroute, as soon as I confirm I will let you know. Next couple of days in 30’s here, but then temp takes a dive and that usually means lake affect snow. Here at Scott’s Superior Inn and Cabins we have lots of openings still for entire winter , including large lakefront cabins that sleep up to 8 people, we are located right on trail#12 , and just a mile from food and gas . 10% discount for Sunday through Thursday .Stay where the groomer lives!!
