Cadillac Area Trail Report – 02/21

Here’s a report from our Trail Coordinator received just moments ago:

After hearing conflicting reports about our trail conditions, I decided to go for a ride yesterday. What a PLEASANT surprise. Getting to the trail system is tough as there is no snow in the Cadillac west motel district or on the White Pine Trail. By trailering to a parking lot (Boon, Bristol, Caberfae, or 33 Rd) there is a lot of good trail and off trail riding. There are some bare dirt spots, but they are few and far between. Most of the forest roads are solid ice covered with 2′ of packed snow. I rode 86 miles yesterday in about 3 hours and then spent 3.5 hours in a groomer. There are some bumps, but they are small and we ran 2 groomers yesterday and 1 is out again today to level out the snow before the warm temps return today and tomorrow. There is some (not major) snow in the forecast every day from Wed. through Saturday. We will plan to update again on Thursday so those planning to travel to Cadillac will know the current conditions. I would plan on coming, but also plan on trailering to a parking lot.

Snow accumulation: 3 inches*

Staging areas: Our trail system has numerous staging areas for your convenience:

Tustin
Bristol
33 Rd (Off M55)
44 Rd (Off M115)
27 Rd (Off M55)
Caberfae(Off M55)

Have fun and ride safely.

Cadillac Area Trail Report – 02/18

Saturday, February 18, 2012

My apologies for the long break between trail reports. Just spoke with Sara from the Boon Store and and she reports they have been busy this morning with sledders reporting the trails are in fair condition. Corners are a problem they say as there isn’t much snow so if you are thinking about riding be careful. The groomers are not running as there isn’t enough snow and the temperatures have been too high the last few days. Although the snow gauge is showing 3 inches, you will probably find a little more in the forest.

White PIne Trail: Some of you may have already seen the signs on the White Pine Trail asking snowmobiles to stay off the trail unless there is atleast 4 inches of snow. The signs posted by the State Park staff read ‘Help protect our resource, please refrain from operating snowmobiles when less than four inches of snow cover the trail.’ We were assured by the State Park staff these signs were posted not as an enforcement tool but as an educational tool. The ‘four inch’ rule has been in effect in State Parks for years.
