Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/21

February 21, 2022

4 degrees this morning, cloudy and a stiff NE wind. No new snow last night but we did pick up a couple inches yesterday. The weather guessers are calling for 6-12 inches starting later today thru tomorrow……oh boy!

All of our trails are in great shape. We do have a problem out in the old burn area that we call Siberia. That area has some HUGE drifts and it will take us a few runs thru there to get that part back in shape. Just be careful and ride slower as there are some pretty big drop offs from drifting. Other than that, we are in great shape on the trails. Now, on to other things……..

We had a machine go down Saturday afternoon, so here`s the story on that. Strange thing. A spindle broke that holds one of the center tires on and it looks like that caused stress on the front tire and that spindle broke too. Have no idea how Groomer Glenn limped that thing back to the barn! He was 10 miles out in the boondocks! The front tire stayed inside the track but the center tire went somewhere. Soooo……he was on the Point trail #452. He did go out on his sled looking for it but did not find it. If you come across a tire and wheel with a broken spindle sticking out of it, PLEASE bring it to us! The thing weighs close to 100 pounds and costs close to $1000.

All I have for today. If we get this 12 inches of snow over the next few days the trails will be AWESOME! We do have a plan for runnin just 2 machines until we can get the other one back up.
Remember…..RIDE RIGHT……RIDE SAFE…..and…..

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Final snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula..... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyFinal snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula.

No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.

Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. If you have any additional snowfall reports to add to the list that are not affected by drifting, drop them in the comments below here on X or Facebook. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.

Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/20

February 20, 2022

As they say UP here in da Nort country…..Holy Whaaa!!!! We got absolutely hammered Friday night. The wind was blasting and it was snowing so hard you couldn`t see 20 foot in front of you. Its impossible to say how much snow we got but I had chest high drifts in my parking lot and it took me most of the day to dig out. Right now it is 25 degrees and cloudy with a light snow falling. I got another 6 inches of fresh snow on my deck from last night. The weather guessers are calling for more snow the next few days too! Now, on to the trails…….

The traffic has been REALLY heavy the last couple of days. Adding on all the wind and drifting I am still calling them good to very good. If you are riding UP here you probably ran across some rough sections but I bet you saw a groomer and things got 100% better! I`ve been grooming all weekend and seen some pretty rough sections but was able to get them glass smooth thanks to all the new snow. Soooo…..thats the good news……here`s some not so good news.

Our luck has finally runnith over. We had a groomer go down last night. Glenn was able to limp it back to the barn last night and we`ll go over it today. I`ll give ya`ll an update once we figure it out. Sorry to end this report with bad news but, it is what it is and we can`t do nutin about it but plug along. We`ll try our hardest to keep up with the remaining 2 machines.

Remember….RIDE RIGHT……RIDE SAFE and…….

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris
