Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/28

February 28, 2022

6 degrees this morning under a mostly clear sky. Boy, I didn`t realize its been since last Thursday since my last report. Sorry, time flys when yer bustin yer butt.

I hope everyone had a good time on our trail system last weekend. The traffic was INSANE again. Thats the busiest I`ve seen it when I was grooming Saturday. The trails took a beating and with us only having 2 machines runnin it was a challenge. I started our one machine at 0930 Saturday morning and groomed South and then Groomer Gerald took it to the Falls and then Groomer Glenn took it on the Point trails and then Groomer Dave M. took it south again. It didn`t get shut down until 1600 Sunday afternoon! Whew, thats 30 1/2 hrs. of straight run time!!!! Our other machine was just about as busy.

Talking to all the operators, we are rating the entire system as good to very good with a few rough spots. Now on too the other machine…..

The parts are expected to be here by late tomorrow. We`ll work on it Wednesday and if everything goes to plan we`ll have it back on the trail by Thursday. Oh, and we did find our long lost wheel and tire!

All I have for ya`s today.

Ride right and ride safe, and…….

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Final snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula..... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyFinal snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula.

No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.

Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. If you have any additional snowfall reports to add to the list that are not affected by drifting, drop them in the comments below here on X or Facebook. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.

Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/24

February 24, 2022

7 degrees this morning and cloudy. No new snow yesterday or last night but boy have we been hammered the couple days before! Sorry for no new reports since Monday but I have been a VERY busy man digging out and grooming. I haven`t given you a full run down on our system for a while so here we go…….

First off, remember we have a machine down, more on that at the end. Groomer Kevin ran the Falls trail #45 last night and rated it as very good to excellent. I ran the South trail #8 yesterday and will call it excellent. Even in the narrow sections (which tend to get bumpy) like the swamp and the federal forest section. The Pine Stump trail #8 is rated at good to very good but there still is a lot of drift issues out in "siberia". Groomer Mike C. is gonna hit that trail today. The Point trails #452 and #453 are only rated as good. This is because they are a tad bumpy cause they have not been run in a few days. Groomer Glenn is gonna hit them today as well. So thats the trails, here`s the rest of the story……

Like I said, we have a machine down. We got it figured out what we need to get it back up. We are ordering parts today so it just depends on how long it will take for them to get here. We still haven`t found the long lost wheel and tire out on trail #452. If you find it, please return it to us. That will save us about $1000. Since we are runnin a 2 machine schedule now, some of the trails won`t get run everyday. There simply isn`t enough time in a day to do that. We will run the Falls trail #45 everyday cause thats the shortest run we have and the busiest trail we have. We will run the other trails every other day but try to double up on the weekends. We are probably lookin at a couple weeks before we can get the other machine going. Soooo……thats what we have going. Please cut us some slack if you run across a bumpy trail, its outa our control.

RIDE RIGHT and RIDE SAFE and, as always……

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris
