Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/15

February 15, 2023

36 degrees this morning and raining here at my place. It rained most of the night and my rain gauge says 1/2 inch. This is a sad day in sno-mo world!

Looking at all the forecasts it looks like any snow "they" were calling for will miss us too. Its supposed to cool off for a day or two then warm back up but our trails are down to a lot of water and mud now. We are suspending all grooming operations until further notice. This report will stand until the weather changes.

Sorry, we can`t do nutin bout the weather. I promise I will get back on here when things change. I`m gonna go cry in my beer now.

Groomer Chris

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Final snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula..... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyFinal snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula.

No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.

Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. If you have any additional snowfall reports to add to the list that are not affected by drifting, drop them in the comments below here on X or Facebook. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.

MACKINAC COUNTY UPDATE via Mackinac County Snowmobile Association >> Monday March 16th
Trail update
Firsts thoughts are what the heck do we do??? Well at the moment we unhooked drag and running the John Deere track tractor just to try and break through. We received somewhere around 3ft so far where it hasn't blowed. There is 6 ft plus drifting in spots. The drifts are gonna get hard to. As much as I would like to say it's awesome out here it just isn't and will take several days to get somewhat of a trail. We are just getting started so there could be more surprises but we are trying!! For the next several days if you are coming up our trails are drifting and there is so much snow that it will take several trips to get smoothed out. We will update when things change. Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/10

February 10, 2023

25 degrees this morning and cloudy. Looks like I picked up about 1/2 inch of snow on my deck last night. The trails are holding up pretty decent after these last couple of warmer days so here`s a run down…..

Groomer Mike C. hit the Stump trail #8 and called it good.
Groomer Kevin ran the entire Falls trail #45 last night and called it overall good. He didn`t break through any water holes but did say there are a couple of rough spots from the ice.
Groomer Dave M. hit the South trail #8 and called it good. He did do one pass thru the swamp and didn`t break through any where but skipped it on the way back.

New Groomer Keith ran the Point trails #452 & #453 but he still hasn`t got the memo to let me know how it went. I`ll try and fix that today. I do know that it is in good shape but with a few snirty spots just from talking with a few riders.

This weekend is gonna be busy being a holiday weekend so we plan on hittin it full blast. Hope it doesn`t get too warm, especially next week.

Remember….RIDE RIGHT…..RIDE SAFE….YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE ON THE TRAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris
