A lone 1 degree on the bank thermometer here in Calumet this morning. And about 3 to 4 inches of new snow. It looks like winter on the Keweenaw again. More snow and cold temperatures predicted for the weekend. Snowmobile trails are in good to very good condition. Ski trails are in good to excellent condition. A good weekend to be out in the snow – but remember to bundle up!

This is the Keweenaw trail system report for Friday, February 10, 2012.

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and groomers are out working on them. Trails are in good to very good condition. Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails….they have the right of way!!! Please watch out for deer on the trails too.

There is logging on a portion of Trail 133.

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Houghton county – 20 inches on the ground, 138.5 inches fallen to date as of 2/9/12
Keweenaw county –21 inches on the ground, 122 inches fallen to date as of 2/10/12

It’s ANOTHER blue sky day on the Keweenaw – and again very, very cold in Calumet this morning. Going to get worse before it gets better, again. Wind chill readings to 20 below the next couple of nights so bundle up, whether your’re out on the trails or viewing the statues.

Snow has been added to the snowmobile trails in Houghton and Hancock, so you can again get through town without burning up your tracks. More will be put down today too.
