Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 03/14

We just returned from a 70 mile snowmobile ride. A great time. It has been a sunny day with temps in the 20’s. Overall the trails are in good shape.

If you’re a old decrepit person that has to have perfectly smooth highway trails or have an old, decrepit snowmachine with no suspension then stay home. However if you enjoy getting out and playing in the snow then come on up and enjoy the March snow. You will be glad you did.

There is a solid ice base with several inches of snow covering it. Its not the dry flyaway snow, this snow is settled on the trail. We did have some drifting the other day and you’ll come along parts where there are snow drifts! They are fun to race thru and watch the snow fly. We went over a large drift that brought back memories of ‘Ticklebelly Hill’ on S.R. 5 heading into Shipshewana, IN. Got that little catch in the belly that makes you want to holler YAHOO.

We took trail 7 and crossed over Old 27 to ride the north and south loops. The worst was the trail that runs alongside the state park. This was very bumpy. Its still worth riding thru to get on with your trail ride. There are a few slushy spots where the deep waterholes are not quite froze or todays sun softened them. A few bare spots too. There was always plenty of white snow around to avoid them.

As I said it is an ice base, and also a few spots where the snow has blown and left just ice so that needs to be kept in mind to avoid a wipe out.

Snow is in the forecast for tomorrow evening. That will make things better. We only saw four sleds in that 70 mile ride.

After doing the north/south loop we rode the trail to Big Boys for our dinner. That powerline was the best. We made fresh tracks in much of it. Then as we were heading back home took a short spin onto trail 4.
We have rooms for the weekend! Pack your gear and head north to get out and enjoy a quick ride Friday evening, and then wake up Saturday morning with a hot breakfast (included in room price). We hope to hear from you. 989-732-2703 or 989-732-4914.

Traverse City Trail Report – TC WebGuide – 03/14

Grand Traverse Snowmobile Club – 03/14

TOTAL BASE: 4 inches

SNOWFALL LAST 24 HOURS: 5 inches

TRAIL CONDITIONS: Good

Well we had rain last Sat. night until Monday with the temps. in the high 30’s to high 40’s. Started snowing Monday night and got colder again, the trails are still in good shape with a base of around 4 inches. The groomers went out Wed. and did the north and east trails, they reported some wet spots in low areas and corners but the trails did groom up good. Be careful of the corners some are icy and wet so be careful and remember this is spring riding. The weather is calling for a chance of snow the next couple of days and highs in the low 30’s and lows in the teens, groomers will be going out as scheduled. Should be a good weekend for riding so get out and enjoy the Northern Michigan beauty of the Grand Traverse Area it might be the last chance this season.

03/13

Just talked to the groomer, he’s down by Fife Lake. He says the trails are in pretty good shape, some standing water in places especially the corners. He has seen a lot of sleds on the trails, so remember if you go riding watch for wet areas and be careful some areas might be icy.
