Gaylord Area Trail Report – 02/06
Gaylord Bureau – February 5, 2026 10:10 a.m. There’s plenty of snow to ride out there with more in the forecast! Trail #7 remains in good shape. The trails toward both Lakes of the North and Johannesburg are bumpy and in fair condition. Please note, due to last April’s ice storm, there are logging operations in some locations. Logging is taking place on the intersection of trails 7 & 4 (Waters) toward Dodge Lake and near Turtle Lake Road (East of Gaylord). The logging trucks may use the trail as a road at times. Proceed with caution in these areas. Trails are still passable and the groomers are doing their best to keep the trails smooth in these areas. Check out a live view of trail # 7 here. A fantastic trip 675 miles and 29.3 hours on my machine. Yesterday morning we headed out from Curtis to St Ignace where we took the ice bridge to the island andhad lunch there and ride around the island. They are doing alot of work over there including a huge project on the grand hotel. After riding back over to ignace we called for the shuttle to take us to the drop off point in Mackinaw City and it was another 3.5 hour ride home from there.. Dunstin and Ronald headed out last night to go back to Iowa but only made it to Grand Rapids as it was to slick out. It was a bit dirizzly ice so it was slow going getting here. We were at Kings fish market in Moran and ran into to guys that had been following our trip so that was a surprise. Pretty quiet in Frederic this morning and the snow is a bit squishy. Its supposed to cool down for the weekend and right now at 10 a..m on friday its 29 degrees. Been out plowing around the building here and I would say we had about 4 new inches during the week so I timed it just right for not being around here. Thanks for checking in. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Thursday 10 a.m. -- Well we lost more snow yesterday as it got up to 53 degrees, so far this morning only up to 36. Things still look suprisingly white. Saw sleds out and about yesterday and we went to Lovells to the Riverside for lunch. I didnt ride mysled but I drove out there. The pics below were a group of riders from Canton OHio with the flying tigers snowmoblile club. Heck the one guy was riding in shorts. They left their buddy Patrick back in Ohio and they said they were heading to the u.p. today to the Clarke Motel for a run up there. Still some riders out there, I see one unloading over at the swamp. Pic below is a guy I saw at the gas station yesterday afternoon and he told me he had a great ride from lakes of the north down to frederic, trail 4 to 7 . At least a few riders still holding out for the end. Trail crossings I looked at this morning still pretty nice and white. That ice underneath is saving things but with more warmth coming itwill be going away.Like I have said many times I have seen way worse conditions than this before. Thanks for checking in. The warmth will help melt and leave some lube for those that are adventureous enough to get a ride in. My sled is buried in the corner right now but I know I could get a good ride in if I was a bit more ambitious. Ground or should I say ice is still rock hard and it is now 33 degrees. I would think that once things start melting that if you were here you could still get in a ride. Trail crossings I looked at on the way up here are still pretty white. I looked at the sledview.com camera and it looks bright white with still no snirt and 12 inches showing on his depth guage.
