It amazes me the number of phone calls we have received from people calling to ‘scold’ us for not doing a timely trail report. Hmmmm… I have some thoughts; but I won’t share those instead I’ll just simply say if there was a snow trail to report on we would be reporting it! … This is what we wait for all year! We want you up here riding! However there just is nothing to ride. We have about 1-2 inches of snow scattered around the ground. There isn’t much of it on the trail. There were a few riders yesterday… guess they don’t worry about damage to their sleds. The weather report is not real promising for the snowfall we need to get a trail base started. You can be sure that when there is snow to ride we will update immediately!

This is the Keweenaw trail system report for Tuesday, December 27, 2011.
The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and groomers are out working on them. Conditions range from poor to good. Trail usage should be done with care until we have better snow cover as there are still a few areas that have rocks, stumps or branches not yet covered by snow. Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails….they have the right of way!!!
There is logging on a short portion of Trails 132 and 133.
Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.
Snowfall & Weather Report:
Houghton county – 8 inches on the ground, 57 inches fallen to date
Keweenaw county –10 inches on the ground, 47.5 inches fallen to date.
