Petoskey Snowmobile Club - 02/28
Current Trail Conditions: Fair
The northern trails are still in pretty decent shape although today’s warmer temps have softened things up quite a bit. You will start to see some dirt until we get more snow. Grooming on the northern trails will be done every three or four days. We are not seeing very much traffic so excess grooming will do more harm than good.
Trail 76 South (The Larry’s Run) is not being groomed at this time due to insufficient snow and icy hills. You can still ride that trail but expect very poor and rough conditions.

Everything around here is pretty brown. The bluebear and cranberry were groomed today, the alba/manci/settings connecters on sunday. Its all flat south of starvation lake, but imo,too brown to ride. Grooming will be only as required to keep it smooth for new snow, not daily.
Visit Boyne Recreational Rentals Website >>>>Our guests are reporting trails are really good. Temps are holding at 30 degrees and snow in the forecast. Looks like snowmobiling will be good for another couple of weeks. Hope you come and enjoy the fresh snow.

Trail Report by Wolf Lake Motel
What a great weekend. We had some guest putting 150 to over 200 miles a day on their sleds, so the trails must have been not too bad. We had riders going north, south, east and west and all reported good to fair riding conditions. Late in the day on Saturday the temp got up to around freezing the trails did get bumpy and loose, (best described as mashed potatoes), a little snirt, but not too bad. As long as you have realistic expectations of the spring like conditions, you should have a decent ride. Remember spring is coming and the snow will be going soon, so ride while you still can. What’s nice around here, we are in the middle of six different grooming clubs, (which we are members of four) and if one club isn’t grooming today, one of the other clubs are grooming today, weather permitting. They are talking a little warm up this week to 35 degrees, so watch this site and I’ll let you know.
We still have a couple rooms and On- site snowmobile rentals available for this week and weekend, so call soon or be left out in the cold. Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm for our Weekday and Bed and Sled specials.
We are running a Bed and Sled Special. Get a modern well maintained single passenger Snowmobile from 10am until 6pm and one of our small single Motel Rooms, Sunday through Thursday for $230, helmet and tax included or get a modern well maintained two passenger Snowmobile from 10am until 6pm and one of our small single Motel Rooms, Sunday through Thursday for $260, helmet and tax included. Weather permitting.
Our Weekday Special for Feburary, Sunday through Thursday is stay two days and get the third day free, No Fridays or Saturdays free. You must mention the specials at the time of the reservation and of course these specials are dependent on availability and can not be combined with any other offer.
Plus we are in the middle of one of the largest ORV trail systems in the state, so if the snow isn’t that great for snowmobiling, bring your ORV up and ride over 200 miles of ORV trails. PLEASE DON’T RIDE YOUR ORV ON THE GROOMED SNOWMOBILE TRAILS. There are plenty of open trails available for ORV riding. Don’t worry winter isn’t over for snowmobiling, but a winter ORV ride can be a blast too. If you don’t have a snowmobile or yours is broken, no problem, WE HAVE ON-SITE SNOWMOBILE RENTALS right here at the Resort. There is good snow in the woods, so two tracken and seasonal roads are a blast right now. (Which there are tons of). 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm
Rooms and ON-SITE Snowmobile Rentals are available.
Visit Wolf Lake Motel Website >>>>Its sad looking… most of the trail. Right out in front of us, is a nice stretch of snow covered trail. And you can still find snow to ride in, its just much harder and you have to be willing to go thru alot of dirt, mud, and rough conditions to get to it!
Its been a disappointing season with so little snow. More disappointment that it could be done and over with already. But its certainly not worth a drive up north to ride your sleds.

Hi all! We got a bit of snow the last few days and now its in every days forecast but not calling for much accumulation unfortunately. The north got more than the south end. Temps also supposed to be hovering around 30 and above during the day and 20’s at night so we may gradually lose some snow and you may start seeing some snirty areas. Trails are holding up though, better to the north end, since they got a few inches of snow when the south didn’t. Keep up the snow dance and get out while you can! Our season is gonna be winding down soon! Groomers are out, more on the north end than south since thats where the most snow is right now. Remember the groomers are volunteers so if ya see one, get outta their way and give them a thumbs up. Hey thanks Steven and Patrick for the pics! OMG I LOVE EM! And thanks for the emails Rog and Craig !I love getting emails and hearing your stories and reports and pics! Remember this report is all of us working it together! BE SAFE, BE SMART, and I’ll SEEYA on the trails! Carol

Weather forecast: 2 inch earlier in week. Currently no new snow, falling every where but here, temps low 30’s day to twenty’s at night. With melt down we lost some snow on our trail. The trail on Highbridge Rd. from Old House Rd into the woods on River Rd has sparse snirty and the bridge is thin along with some curves through-out south system. The south end from Kaleva to Wellston is FAIR to GOOD through woods, north end from Copemish to Maple City is GOOD holding up well from snow fall last week and 2 inch earlier this week, now have off trail ground cover of 5 - 9 inches. Hoping with snow dance and luck it may then start Thursday night through Monday night possible chance of storm with scattered snow flurries and wind chill factors. Ray Bradley is 2009 Groomer of the year. Way to go Ray!! Check these out. Early run steelhead competition, fishing starts 5 Am Feb 27 from M55 bridge to Tippy dam on big the Manistee river. For any up-coming events, use information links below. Hope your getting you rides on, as the sledding season is drawing to the end. Sleds still tuned up, gassed up and ready for the snowmobile season. Support your winter sport don’t forget to buy your trail permit for 2010 season here. Good Morning,
The boardman is still in good shape. High traffic last weekend, however, the trails held up well. Most of the trail is snow covered. There are a few rough spots down by Fife Lake and around the Ranch. Riding is still great. We are looking forward to a couple more weeks of good riding. We found some great snow in the woods yesterday. Some areas in the woods still have about 3 feet or so. Seasonal roads, 2 tracks, and powerlines are in great shape.
We have plenty of snowmobiles left for the weekend. Get off the couch and come up here and play in the snow !

FRESH SNOW…? We finally received some fresh snow, nothing like down state, however we got 3-4" yesterday and the trails were groomed last night and will be again tonight. It seems like the snow hit towards Ranch Rudolf and Kalkaska, not so much in Leelanau County. So it looks great for another awesome weekend riding, we also have the snowcross up here at the casino on Saturday. No rentals for the snow cross thanks……At this point it seems like we will squeak out at least two more weekends of descent riding on the Boardman Valley trail. Have a great weekend Cheers Brett

Please be careful around corners there is ice under the snow in the curves. We have had warm days and cold nights the past two days. Some areas have dirt on them. Please stay on trails and try to avoid private property.
Due to heavy traffic and warmer weather we did haul snow into the trailhead at Timber Charlie’s to Slaughter House Road. We are trying to make your ride more enjoyable and minimize any wear & tear to your sled.
All trails are in good/fair condition but we have had a little meltdown due to warmer weather so please be careful and enjoy the riding. The trails in town are just in fair condition but as you go out north they get better and are in good condition. Forcast is saying up to 9 inches by Friday night.
Trail #9 north is in fair condition.Watch for water on the trail when leaving the staging area near the railroad tracks, Once you get past the 3 mile staging area things get better. The base is 6-8 inches north and groomers are reporting fair conditions. Be carful on the straight away between M-123 and 3 mile staging area, mogals form there quick depending on how many sleds go over it. There are some bare spots close to town. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS LOGGING ON THE TRAIL ABOUT 8 MILES NORTH, SO WATCH FOR LOGGING TRUCKS
Trail #45 North is in fair condition with a 6-8 inch base, but, there are 2 logging areas on it. One north, and one south, of the Skyline Trail Head. It is plowed and can be rough at times. The trail from Co. Rd. 500 to the Falls is in fair shape. Due to ice it took the groomer 3 attempts to get up the hill just south of M-123
Trail #9 south to Hemlock Ridge road (trail 2) has up to a 3 inch base and is in fair condition.
Trail #2 From the Naubinway split to Rexton is in fair condition with up to a 3 inch base.
Trail #473 has about 7 miles of plowed road from Rexton south to Epoufette due to logging in the area. Please watch for trucks and deer in the area. The base is marginal to 3 inches and in fair condition.
South of 4 Corners going to Rexton trail has about 41/2 miles of plowed trails due to logging on the Luce/Mackinac county lines.
Trail #473 Rexton to Trout lake is in fair condition with up to a 3 inch base.
Town trails are open and in good condition with a 2-4 inch base.

If you’re not afraid to get off trail and enjoy the two tracks/trails you can enjoy some fun riding. Still plenty of snow on those.
Trail 7 along the highway is terrible. Trail 4 had some decent stretches, but lots more rumble strips of bumps. Icy corners, few dirt areas.
679 was great! Really enjoyed riding along it. Very decent riding.
Sunshine today. Not any water where we rode today, it had all froze. Snow is in the forecast but uncertain if its going to be enough to make any measurable snow.

Visit TheKeweenaw.com Website >>>>Best guesstimate of new snow is 6 to 12" depending where you are in the county…about 9" out my Bessemer back door. More in some places-less in others. Gogebic Range Trail Authority: Groomers are out and all trails are being groomed including 2-8-160-11N and 11S. Conditions are good-some very good, some fair.more info on GRTA at: gogebicrangetrailauthority.com)
From Gogebic Area Grooming, covering the Lake Gogebic Area-Groomers are all out double grooming all trails.. trails in good shape and good to very good. Logging is still ongoing- so watch for signs and especially logging trucks-pull way over immediately when you see them.
And from the U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet: groomers out daily - They report trail conditions are good to very good.
TOO MANY SERIOUS ACCIDENTS are in the news this year. Many are alcohol and speed related. We want you to have a great time on our trails here in Big Snow Country, so please use your good common sense and save your drinking for after the ride.
ICE: Let us reiterate, there is no such thing as "safe" ice.
If you choose to ride on a body of water, be sure you check with locals in the specific area you intend to ride and get current information on conditions in that area. When you ride on ice, you are doing so at your own risk.
PHOTO REQUEST from us. Thanks to those who’ve responded…keep ‘em coming. If you have any neat snomo pictures you’re willing to share, we’re looking for a cover shot for next years map and other marketing uses. Can’t pay but will give a photo credit on inside of map. Send in jpg -300 dpi-to bigsnow@westernup.info. Be aware anything you send will become the property of the WUPCVB so this request is more for amateur photographers…in other words, don’t send anything you may want to sell in the future. Appreciate any help on this.
WATCH FOR GROOMERS Keep in mind the groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, and PLEASE pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.
SIGN VANDALISM RESULTING IN SERIOUS SITUATION
Expect to see more patrols on the trails due to a recent rash of sign vandalism incidents…we’re hearing cameras also may be enlisted in order to apprehend those responsible. If you see any suspicious activity, please call the DNR at 800-292-7800.

Trail Report by Wolf Lake Motel
Last weekend was a butt kicking, but this week is looking better and better. We did get an inch or so on 2-22-10 and a dusting 2-23-10 and an inch or two so far on 2-24-10 and it’s still snowing. (Now just a little west and south of us, they received 4" to 9" last night) The trails did take a beating last weekend, but I did see on 2-21-10, where the groomers did go out and try to flatten the trails out, getting ready for the forecasted snow. That is what’s nice around here, we are in the middle of six different grooming clubs, (which we are members of four) and if one club isn’t grooming today, one of the other clubs are grooming today. The forecast sounds like we are going to get some more snow later today, tomorrow and again on Friday and Saturday, but with any forecast I’ll believe it when I see it. If we just get even a few inches, we will be in pretty fair shape. As long as you have realistic expectations of the conditions, you should have a decent ride. Remember spring is coming and the snow will be going soon, so ride while you still can.
We still have a couple rooms and On- site snowmobile rentals available for this week and weekend, so call soon or be left out in the cold. Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm.

Trail Report by Fay's Motel
Greetings Sledders,
Wanted to wait until after the off trailin’ today to do the e-mail version of the report.
LAST WEEKEND: All that were here struggled through the not too good weather conditions to get good rides as the snow was melting during three days of mid to upper 30’s and the Sun set on high. This was accomplished in several directions NW, off trail and some mileage was actually picked up here by the young Mayer lad on his mini Polaris. When he and his younger sister weren’t riding on the big sled with Mom and Dad they spent every available minute riding over the driveway then back to the parking lot, turn around and repeat the course. In setting in my easy chair all I could see was the red flag go by the window in one direction and a few minutes later here it comes back again in the opposite. Cute as hell to watch.
Many thanks to all of you for making last weekend a great one. We had the Carey’s, Wixey’s, Mayer’s , Wagner’s to name a few and of course I would be remiss should I not acknowledge the infamous Grapeman and his group. The Grapeman visited us some years ago and emptied a cooler that had grapes in it into a sink and clogged our drain, hence Grapeman and he is not allowed in any room carrying fruit smaller than an orange. He also claims that he has every report that I’ve published, hard to believe that anyone would want to collect such a pile of jibberish but flattering nonetheless.
The Burger group was also here working on their stuff in the garage and as usual taking it all in stride. You Ohio folks are the most patient people I know. I remember a few years back when we were putting a track on the Lamtrac and these guys took off the coats, rolled up the sleeves and said ALL RIGHT something to fix and dove right in. Thanks again guys, but never utter the word Lamtrac again, brought back horrific memories and nightmares.
HERE AND NOW: We are not grooming. Most of the system is for the most part shot, passable on some segments but not really recommended. The exception to that is what the Wilhelm boys and I experienced today and that would be the straights on the Lovells trail that we went on in order to get to off trail which was great and included an awesome air show by two A-10 drivers, the strafing runs just 75 yards away were just incredable. That Gatling gun is a sight to behold especially when you are that up close and personal.
FUTURE: There’s not much in the forecast to suggest that a turn around in the trail system is on the immediate horizon. Not seeing anything that would compromise off trail but nothing healing on the rest either.
Next report when something looks to change conditions.
Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls.
At Fay’s Motel enjoy direct access to the Grayling Area snowmobile trails.

FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Tuesday–February 23, 2010
We didn’t get much of that snow that blanketed the southern part of the state yesterday. And, what did fall, didn’t last long because of the mild temperatures. The snow gauge this morning showed only a one-half inch increase. There is still plenty of snow in the forest but it is wearing thin or non-existent in some open areas and on curves elsewhere. The groomers are going out every day as long as temperatures and conditions permit. Most of the forest trails are excellent with some areas marginal. The remainder of the trail system could be rated good to poor.
Snow gauge*: 6 inches

I’m back from my fishing trip, so I’m back to work. I’m sure you all heard about the State wide melting this last weekend. Sunny, high traffic and 35 degrees doesn’t make for great snowmobile trails. The trails did take a beating, but I did see where the groomers did go out and try to flatten the trails out, getting ready for the forecasted snow. That is what’s nice around here, we are in the middle of six different grooming clubs, (which we are members of four) and if one club isn’t grooming today, one of the other clubs are grooming today. We did get an inch or so on 2-22-10, but more snow is needed. The forecast sounds like we are going to get some snow later today and tomorrow and again on Friday and Saturday, but with any forecast I’ll believe it when I see it. If we just get even a few inches, we will be in pretty fair shape.

The trails did take a beating over the weekend with warm temps and heavy traffic. We received and inch or so yesterday with more on the way. Probably an inch today.. They are still being groomed and coming up good in 90% of the places. the usual high traffic areas near Ranch and Fife Lake are dirt or pavement, so getting into Fife Lake and Kalkaska would be tricky to access. The woods still has a good amount of snow looks like getting better heading toward the weekend. Maybe 2 more weeks.. cheers Brett

Ishpeming, MI Snowmobiling Update
The trails remain in excellent shape. We had a couple days of warmer weather that didn’t really affect the trails much. More snow is expected this week and this will only help to improve the conditions. Riders are reporting excellent rides throughout the area.
Note: The Moose Country Snowmobile club now has a groomer parked on site in the Country Village so our spur is always the first to be groomed when they go out. So you can literally see the groomer leaving the garage to go groom the trails on a daily basis.
Weather
It is getting colder again after a brief warm up. Snow is expected this week as well!
Conditions
Excellent Overall. For up to the minute conditions please call toll free 866-875-4312 and ask.

Benzie-Manistee Snowmobile Club - 02/23
Weather forecast: Monday we had a warm up, mid 30’s day to twenty’s at night through tomorrow. With melt down taking a toll we lost some snow on our trail. The trail on Highbridge Rd. from Old House Rd into the woods on River Rd has sparse snirty to dirt spots and the bridge is bare along with curves through-out south system. The south end from Kaleva to Wellston is POOR, north end from Copemish to Maple City is GOOD holding up well from 6 inch snow fall last week and now have off trail ground cover of 5 - 9 inches. Hoping with snow dance and luck it may then start new week Monday night through Thursday night possible chance of storm with scattered snow flurries, high in the 20’s with wind chill factors.

Hi all! The good news is that we have been getting a little snow over the last several days! About 3-6". AND they are still calling for another few inches today yet and into tomorrow! Temps in the 20’s during the day with a little warm up over the next few days but also some possible LE flurries through the rest of the week. Groomers are out there and trails are looking pretty darn good! Wintefest last weekend was awesome and now don’t miss this weekend’s Shiver by the River, in Frankfort that includes Sno Cross! February 19th - 21st! OK! So, get out and ride! Its looking good! Remember the groomers are volunteers so if ya see one, get outta their way and give them a thumbs up. Hey thanks John and Jeff for the emails! I love getting emails and hearing your stories and reports and pics! Remember this report is all of us working it together! BE SAFE, BE SMART, and I’ll SEEYA on the trails! Carol
