The snow we got on Thursday gave riders a chance to get out this weekend and enjoy the trails. Groomers got the trails in good shape. Gaylord and Indian Rivers got a thumbs up from our guests. Everyone enjoyed their rides north and to the west. There were alot of riders out there yesterday and by late in the day corners were definitely icy. The rail bed thru Vanderbilt was ice and rocky… the winds had just blown the snow off.

Snow started falling this afternoon and at this point we’ve gotten another few inches of new snow to freshen things up. Riders just coming in enjoyed their rides.

Its looking like a good week with cold temps and snow in the forecast. David Prenger tells why Rays Retreat is Snowmobilers First Choice in a comment he left at our blog (www.raysretreatcountryinn.com/blog). His comment:
my wife and I were talking the other night. When we do get back to riding again we know we’ll be giving you a call. I really miss coming up to ride there and staying at your place. I have alot of fond memories through my childhood years and onto right after my wife and I got married. It has been tough to try to get away with our little ones as we don’t like to do much without our kids too. We have three boys now, ages 4, 3, and 6 months. Hopefully in another year or two we’ll be able to get back into riding up there in Michigan. We just don’t get snow here in Ohio but when we do my 3 and 4 year old let me know it’s time to get to the garage and get out the snowmobiles. When the time comes we’ll be giving you a call. My aunt and uncle who still come and stay with you have been asking us to come along but with the little ones we keep declining. Soon we’ll be calling, maybe next year!
Give us a call if you’re looking for a great snowmobiling experience. 989-732-2703 or 989-732-4914

Good afternoon,

It’s 5:00 p.m. and the temp is 25 degrees, perfect for riding. Guests are reporting the trails are in great shape. The snow guauge is showing 15", and it’s still snowing.

It’s really quite beautiful looking out at the lake, I just love when the snow lays on the brances of the trees and it’s untouched. There’s a peace and beauty I haven’t found any in any other place. The quite is so quite, the sky is so pure and the air so fresh. Hmmmm maybe that’s why I choose to leave Florida and move here. It’s been 16 years and I still am in awe in the beauty of all four seasons.

Please be careful around curves. The weather has cooled down and there is some ice around the curves. We had 4 - 5 inches of snow North overnight with more on the way. We are expecting snowfall of 3 - 6 inches today

Trail #9 south to Hemlock Ridge road (trail 2) has a 0 -4 inch base and is in good condition.

Trail #9 north is in good to very good condition. The base is 6-8 inches and riders are reporting very good conditions, please watch for ice and dirt, especially on hills and around curves.

Trail #45 North is in good shape with a 6-8 inch base, but, there are 2 logging areas on it. One north, and one south, of the Skyline Trail Head. It is plowed and can be rough at times. The trail from Co. Rd. 500 to the Falls had snow fall last night, and groomers are reporting the trail is in good shape.

Trail #2 to Rexton is in fair condition with a 1 -3 inch base.

Trail #473 has about 7 miles of plowed road from Rexton south to Epoufette due to logging in the area. Please watch for trucks and deer in the area. The base is marginal to 3 inches and in fair condition.

Trail #473 Rexton to Trout lake is in poor condition and will not be groomed until we have more snow.

Town trails are open and in good condition with a 0-3 inch base.

*Please remember our groomers are out daily to keep the trails in the best shape they can be for your riding pleasure. Please keep a safe distance from the groomer if possible.*

We have updated the Newberry Village trail map. There are just a couple of changes from the last map. Look for our upcoming article in the February issue of the Michigan Snowmobiler Magazine.

Hi Everyone, The riders from this weekend were all happy with the trails, but of course more snow would be nice. I know Baldwin, Irons, Benzie/Manistee and Cadillac grooming clubs have been out grooming this last weekend and report fair to good to very good conditions. One thing that is nice around here, we are in the middle of 6 different grooming clubs, (which we are members of 4), if one isn’t grooming, one of the other Clubs are grooming and we have maps right in the Office. Plus there are tons of seasonal roads and two tracks to explore. But please stay off of private property. The forecast is for 40 percent chance of snow today and Tuesday and Thursday, so conditions should get better and better.
We are running a Bed and Sled Special. Get a modern well maintained single passenger Snowmobile from 10am until 6pm and one of our small single Motel Rooms, Sunday through Thursday for $230 helmet and tax included or get a modern well maintained two passenger Snowmobile from 10am until 6pm and one of our small single Motel Rooms, Sunday through Thursday for $260 helmet and tax included. Weather permitting.
Also stay two days and get the third free, Sunday through Thursday. No Fridays and Saturdays. You must mention at the time of the reservation and of course this special is dependent on availability and can not be combined with any other offer.
Plus we are in the middle of one of the largest ORV trail systems in the state, so if the snow isn’t that great for snowmobiling, bring your ORV up and ride over 200 miles of ORV trails. PLEASE DON’T RIDE YOUR ORV ON THE GROOMED SNOWMOBILE TRAILS. There are plenty of open trails available for ORV riding. Don’t worry winter isn’t over for snowmobiling, but a winter ORV ride can be a blast too. If you don’t have a snowmobile or yours is broken, no problem, WE HAVE ON-SITE SNOWMOBILE RENTALS right here at the Resort. There is good snow in the woods, so two tracken and seasonal roads are a blast right now. (Which there are tons of). 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm

Rooms and ON-SITE Snowmobile Rentals are available.

We are members of the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, Baldwin Trailriders Snowmobile Club, Benzie/Manistee Snowbirds Snowmobile Club, Irons Area Tourist Association Snowmobile Club, Wellston Area Recreation and Tourist Bureau Snowmobile Club, Lake County ORV Club and the Michigan Snowmobile Association, which are the local grooming clubs. I can not thank these guys and gals enough, they do a lot of work for free, so we all can enjoy this sport. I would only think that if someone is complaining about a bumpy trail on Saturday afternoon, come to a couple club meetings and see just what these people do. They would never complain again. Thank you again.

Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm. See ya soon on the trails.

FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Saturday evening–January 30, 2010

Three groomers were out today and report the trails are in suprisingly good shape…most are about an 8 out of 10. The Boon groomer did Trail 37 south, while the 8920 groomed Trails 6, 376, 677, 687, 638 and the 7920 groomed Trail 35 east from Fairchild Creek to Hobart then Trail 5 North to McGuires then Trail 5 south to LeRoy. There is an ice base on all trails and light snow covering throughout the entire system. The absence of snirt is quite amazing. It is frozen solid and the trails are white. There are a few “chatter bumps” in some places the groomers can’t get out. Fortunately they aren’t deep and they aren’t throughout the entire system.

Snow gauge*: 3 inches

Temperature is 17 F - 2-3 inches of new snow overnight and more falling. Trails in this area are nice and groomers are running - 1-800-257-1457 for reservations.

Good morning,

It’s warming up, the temp is 14 degrees, perfect for riding.
The trails are good according to the guests that rode yesterday. Their saying if you are not here you are missing out.

The hot tub is hot, the temps are cold and the snow is great, what more could we ask for.

Just for today, I’ll live in this moment, do the best I can and tomorrow will take care of itself.

Greetings Bored Sledders,

Keith’s not feeling up to snuff tonight, so I am in charge of getting a quick report out.

Winter has finally returned and with a vengeance. Snowy, blowy and cold.

Keith took a quick ride this morning to check things out. What he found was enough snow to ride on with ice underneath. Enough ice to have him spend the rest of the afternoon putting studs on one of the tractors.

So the outlook is this: Snow will continue on and off throughout the weekend. Weather to stay cold. Rides will not be premium, but than again, they haven’t been premium all year. Grooming will be dictated by traffic.

If you do ride, please watch the ice!

Traverse City - Boardman Valley - January 28, 2010What a day yesterday.

First of all we did get about 4 inches of fresh snow. The winds have been up and we have not seen much improvement to the base. As for the base we do have a solid base on the Boardman. The trails are a bit icy in some spots but overall seem pretty good. The groomer has been out knocking down the bumps. With the current snow we should see some good riding this weekend.

OK ! I need to take a minute to give a huge thank you to SUPERTRAX magazine and SNOWTRAX tv for giving Mike and I the opportunity to guide them through the Boardman Valley. Mike and Matt Lester from Supertrax gave us a shout and asked us to guide them through the area. What a great opportunity for the local business’ on the trail and for Traverse in general. The Lester family has owned the rights to the business for years and were very impressed with not only the trails but the area as well. We are excited to say they will be giving the Boardman Valley trail and Blue Sky some great exposure in the Sept 2010 Supertrax magazine. We are in the works to possibly even help produce an episode of the SNOWTRAX TV show in the early winter of next year. I will say this.. they had some sweet new sleds for us to ride. I had my own 2009 Polaris 800 Dragon, Mike was on an 09 Renegade XP. The boys from Supertrax had the 2010 f8 snowpro, the 2010 Polaris 800 Dragon (which will feature on Mondays Snowtrax episode), the 2010 Yamaha Nitro FX, and my favorite of the four, the new 2010 Polaris Rush. Mike and I had a blast getting the chance to ride the latest and greatest. We had a chance to pick the brains of the experts and we grabbed as much information as we could. What a great day. We will be posting some photo’s from the ride very soon.

Anyway, enough bragging, we are looking forward to a great weekend of riding.

Be safe out there!

Jamie B.

We got snow! We still want more, is there such a thing as too much snow? Its hard to tell exactly how much snow with all the blowing, but between 5-7 inches. The Gaylord groomers were out today and trail 7 is in good shape. We haven’t had a chance to get out to ride ourseves. Guests have been out and had good rides going west. Blue Bear was good riding also.
Bitter cold is still with us, so bundle up if you get out tomorrow which is supposed to be even colder. Cold and snow are in the forecast for all this next week.
Ride safely this weekend, there is ice under that snow!

The 8120 is headed to the Pine River and Bristol, while the 7920 will do #6 west and #637 tonight, and then the east side trails tomorrow morning."

Hi Everyone, I just got off the phone with the Irons Grooming Corridinator and she said the groomers are out and all trails will be done by tomorrow. Cold temps and LES snow is a great combo for making smooth trails. CAUTION THE TRAILS ARE ICY. Yesterday I got back from a 92 mile ride and most of the trails are in pretty fair condition, with the exception of a 5 mile section of trail 3 south of low Bridge to Laverne road, which was bad. Plus this was before the groomers went out, so it has to be better now. We did lose some snow last Sunday, but we have been getting some LES for the last four days. More LES snow is forecasted for the next 7 days with cold temps to continue. Around this neck of the woods, with LES snow, we may either get an inch or two or a foot or two, you just never know. But with any forecast I’ll believe it when I see it. One thing that is nice around here, we are in the middle of 6 different grooming clubs, (which we are members of 4), if one isn’t grooming, one of the other Clubs are grooming and we have maps right in the Office.

Good afternoon,

Burrrrr is cold it’s only 9 degrees, and it is snowing. The snow on the snow gauge outside my window went from 16" down to 8" in our melt down. Last nights snow has brought it back up to almost 12". We did keep our base on the trails from here north. The corners took a little wear, but with this new snow they should be in great shape for the weekend.

Hope you will come and join us.

Please be careful around curves. The weather has cooled down and there is some ice around the curves, and bare spots on the hills. We still have some snow on trails but it is getting thin in spots. We are adjusting the times we go out grooming. We are expecting snow and cold weather to move in starting tonight with 6 -12 inches overnight. Happy Hump Day! After our little warm up we lost a lots of snow and are seeing lots of snirt and dirt around, with more snow in the woods of course. Layer of ice under the little bit of fresh stuff we got. Still rideable for sure, but not great. we need the snow! Forecast is calling for LE snow this week and so far we have only seen maybe an inch or two at best with some blowing around. Forecast is also calling for super cold again with highs only in the teens during the day and single digits at night, but a bit warmer by the weekend. Groomers were out Friday but we gotta have the snow now so do your dance, and pray Mother Nature wakes up for us again! The groomers are doing a great job with what they have to work with in weather of late! Remember they are volunteers so if ya see one, get outta their way and give them a thumbs up. Grooming is done 4 days a week, by 3 groomers at different parts of the trail every Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat. nights, plus "as needed". Drop me a note that you are out there! I love hearing everyone’s stories and reports! Remember this report is all of us working it together! BE SAFE, BE SMART, and I’ll SEEYA on the trails! Carol

Gogebic Range Trail Authority: After the groomers were pulled from the trails due to mild weekend temps, they are now back out both day and night. All trails being groomed including 2-8-160-11N and 11S. Conditions are good and getting better.
From the Lake Gogebic Area-Groomers are all out double grooming all trails.. and reporting trails range from fair to good to very good.
Watersmeet groomers are back out and reporting trail conditions are fair to good.
IN ALL AREAS:
You need to be aware the groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, and PLEASE pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.
The time you spend riding in Big Snow Country is all about lots of fun and a great time…therefore, your safety is our #1 priority.

Here is an article from today’s (1-27-10)Ironwood Daily Globe:
Names of the three men, ages 46, 47 and 18, had not been released Tuesday afternoon.
They were snowmobiling on Lake Gogebic at the mouth of Snow River when their sleds went through the ice. They were too far out into the river for foot rescue, onlookers said.

Read the above and you’ll see why we say there is no such thing as "safe ice". If you choose to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for specific information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.

FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Wednesday–January 27

The tide is turning. Temperatures are below freezing now and we have picked up a couple inches of snow. No big storms in the forecast but daily snow is expected throughout the week with temperatures in the teens. The "Janurary thaw" appears to be over. Now, we can get on with winter. Yipee!

Snow gauge*: 2.5 inches

The warm spell was not hitting us too hard, UNTIL, rain came last weekend. that knocked out a lot of snow real quick.. Good that its back cold and snowing again. There were many places of dirt last weekend, as usual on the busy areas and corners. Yesterady bought 1-3" with only 1" or so overnight last night. Snow in the forecast everyday this week, we’ll have to see how much we get. My guess is by this weekend there will be a thin layer of hard ice and snow in the bad areas and reasonable snow in the good areas. Still good snow in the woods off the trails. COLD, COLD ,COLD……..!!Cheers Brett

Mancelona Trail Report
Jordan Valley Trails Council
Updated: 01/26/10
Current Trail Conditions: Poor

The trails are frozen again and snow is falling. It will take 6" before the groomers can begin panning again.

Petoskey Snowmobile Club - 01/24
Current Trail Conditions: poor

We’re in a significant meltdown as of Sunday afternoon. Temps are in the 40s with a strong breeze. Not good for the trails. The Larry’s Run (76 South) was groomed Saturday night but the snow is getting very thin. We are going to suspend grooming that trail until we get more snow.

The northern trails typically have a little bit more snow and hang in there a little bit longer than the Larry’s Run. We will continue to groom the northern loops every few days until condition improve and allow us to get out there more often.

Its here! The snow that is. Fresh stuff is falling and just as predicted the temps are too. The trails are great and the deep base saved us through the warm up we had. Call for reservations, guiding, or any other questions you may have. Thanks Everts Motor Sports
