Here is a list of the snowmobile trails in this area, are you ready? The Baldwin trails, (146 miles) go west to Reed City and south from here to Newaygo, Irons trails wrap around Wolf Lake and then heads north, east and west for 122 miles and connects to Cadillac and Wellston trails, Cadillac trails connect into the Irons and Wellston trails all the way to Cadillac, then south to Leroy, they groom 124 miles, Wellston trails goes west to connect to Cadillac trails and south to the Irons Trails and west to Freesoil for 68 miles and north to the, Benzie/Manistee trail system. The Pere Marquette trail connects to The Baldwin trail and all the way to Evart and up to Leroy 144 miles, the south Pere Marquette trail goes to Grand Rapids, I think about 140 miles, then north the Benzie/Manistee trail goes all the way to the Maple City another 147 miles I think. Let’s total this up, 146 + 122 + 124 + 68 + 140 + 147 = 747 in groomed connecting trails just in this area alone and we are right in the middle of them. I know most of the groomer operators and their schedules, so if it’s bumpy one way, we know which way to go, to have smooth trails. I don’t know about you but that’s a ton of riding. Now there is more trails to get to, but that would be just over kill and this is not even counting the hundreds of miles of the two tracks and seasonal roads that you can ride. Why spent an extra $200 to $300 in fuel to get to Gaylord or the UP when we have fantastic riding right here.

Remember that the mid week riding is the best, less to no traffic, no lines at the gas pump and you don’t have to worry so much about the crazies coming up the trail at you.

There are over 740 miles of connecting groomed trails that run through this area and surrounding areas, so why would you want to go anywhere else? Plus miles and miles of two tracks and seasonal roads. We have two bedroom lake front rooms with full kitchens, living rooms with a sofa sleeper, (sleeps 6 - $110 a night), double lake front rooms with a queen and full beds and a kitchenette and dining table and chairs (sleeps 4 - $88 a night). Double motel rooms with two double beds and a mini fridge, (sleeps 4 - $59 a night) and single motel rooms with one full bed, (sleeps 2 - $44 a night) and our large Bunk House which has two bed rooms with queen bunk beds and a queen sofa sleeper, full kitchen, full living room, a breakfast bar and a fireplace (sleeps 10 - $ 167 a night). Houghton County has recieved a total of 190.75 inches of snow for the season with 45 inches on the ground. Keweenaw County has recieved 251 inches of snow for the season with 43 inches on the ground.

***Weather….we are still in the grips of a high pressure Dry front.. temps will remain in the upper 30s and maybe 40s for saturday….temp in single digits west of lake superior/canada… a chance of Rain/sleet/snow for sunday….minor cold air will follow on beginning of next week with temps dropping into 20s night & 30s daytime and possible light snows…

***Trail Report….2 of us groomed trail #8 last night in its entirety…. its was in ‘good condition ‘ when we started adn even better when done….nice and flat (see pict…) only seen 4 sleds in 8 hours and 50 miles of grooming…. things are great on the trails… some water adn puddles ,ice starting to slowly show up …but just minor at this posting….still a great ride on groomed trails and sweatshirt riding….

***Grooming will end on Sunday …with rain in sundays forcast and no real snow coming..we have no prediction of a extended grooming into next week….its a day to day decision….

But, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings … We will be running two grooms a night until Sunday night when the trails officially close at midnight. Even though we will have snow we do not expect to do any extended grooming; it is supposed to be up in the high 30’s and low 40’s through Easter weekend.

There is a 50% chance of snow on Saturday and a 70% chance of snow on Sunday but it doesn’t look to be much. The trails are still in great condition out in the woods and there’s going to be good riding off trail for quite a while. The trail coming into town is going to start thawing quickly on the pavement and we have a lot of standing water around town. You may want to trailer out and use the staging areas to do some awesome jean and jacket riding! Book your rooms and get UP here for one last blast on the Crazy 8’s!

Talked to 2 nice Canadian guys who drove 6 hours to get here, and did a 3 day ride out of here on Monday. They said that Newberry had more snow, but overall they thought the trails were in excellent condition, a ton of fun and ‘way better then home!’ Hope to see them back next season.

Trails are in good shape, and just so you know what I mean, here are some pics out side Iggy. Fist is about the worst spot we have, there is about 1 mile of this total, everything else looks like the next pic. More pics on our site from this morning. (groomer is just a great pic from last month).

NOTICE: Our Cedarville trail connector has active construction on the power line near Mackinac Trail. I am working on a re-route, but currently you will be on the shoulder for those 2 miles, as the power line is off limits.

‘FYI:

Just an update this morning,3-26-2013…….I groomed out of the 48 Road Base last night (Monday)….From the 33 Road Parking Lot out to the Pine River on Trail #35 and also the Bristol Trail #358. The trails are ‘almost prime’! There was only one south sloping hill that was ice and dirt, down near State Ride, but I groomed all the way to the Pine River Bridge. Even in the Red Pine areas was very ‘ridable’! If you trailer out to the 33 Road Parking Lot, you’ll get lots of ‘BONUS MILES’ of good riding!?

It was a busy weekend with folks getting in what could be the last ride of the season. Our staging areas situated close to and in the forest were full on Saturday. There was lots of snow in the forest and the groomers had worked hard during the week to keep the trails in shape for the weekend.

The weatherman tells us temperatures could be in the 40’s this week. It certainly didn’t get there today. It was cold enough to groom today and there is still plenty of snow in the woods to do so.

The White Pine Trail is done for the season and the in-town trail is in rough shape. But, there is still plenty of nice riding in the forest. Trailer to one of the staging area listed below ( March 18) and you will be off to a great start. Beware that under the snow is ICE and it is getting closer to the surface every day.

To better access the forest trails, you’ll want to use one of the Staging Areas below:

33 Rd Staging Area–S of M-55–approx.. 3 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Caberfae Staging Area–approx.. 12 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Boon Staging Area–park in plowed area south of Boon Grocery

Note: The porta-a-johns were removed from our staging areas today as our contracts on them expired 3-15-13.

Lake Gogebic snow conditions are great!!! Ice conditions are good, with the well traveled areas being best. Expect slush and deep snow in the less traveled areas. Snowmobile is best and for foot travel snowshoes are recommended. Perch action has been fair with few anglers on the ice. Use wigglers, spikes or small minnows near bottom in 22ft to 27ft depths for the best results. Enjoy the great spring weather on the ice! weather …..we are in a high pressure area now and getting increased warmth and sunshine …Temps will be in the 40s and sunny by saturday… today will bring some cloud cover from the north and temps in the upper 30s..and out of the north/n.W. with a 8mph wind….

Trail Report…Trails are now down graded to a ‘GOOD’ condition..Due to the following (small water spots & areas,icy corners, bare spots close to town along roads,from road salt and sand) still miles of great riding but still some spots you need to watch out for…..

Hi all and Happy Monday! We are hanging on and gonna take this season right to the end! Yeehah! LOts of traffic over the weekend but the groomers were out hard and heavy doing what they could to keep up and THANK YOU to them! Trails are still in good condition! All trails were groomed yesterday but it was too warm for the Bear Lake Spur but they are hoping temps drop enough tonight to get out that way. Yay for the last of the season diehards out there riding yet! The groomers have been parked, the trails are to soft to groom. The temps. have been in the high 30’s to low 40’s and is not getting cold enough at night to set the trails up. The groomers went out last night and did more damage than good. They reported water on the trails and some dirt starting to show. There’s still quite a bit of snow for off trail riding but getting into towns will be hard..

We are members of the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, Baldwin Trailriders, Irons Area Tourist Association, Wellston Area Recreation and Tourist Bureau, Benzie-Manistee Snowbirds, Lake County ORV Club and the Michigan Snowmobile Association. These are the local grooming clubs, in which we help support all of your favorite sports. When I go to an area, I always buy the new map for the season from the local snowmobile or ORV club. Trails may change and so do the maps. But I always spend my hard earned money, only with the businesses that support my sport. All those advertisers on the Snowmobile or ORV Club maps are the people, that help make those trails possible for all of us to ride. Just my two cents.

We have rooms available for this week and weekend, so what are you waiting for? We are snowmobilers too, and know if there isn’t enough snow to ride, you don’t want to come up and not be able to ride. Just call us before you come up and we will tell you the conditions at that time and if there is not good enough snow to ride, you can cancel your room with no penalties. But if there is enough snow to ride we expect you to keep your reservation. If you need a room or snowmobile rental, just give us a call 231-745-4101, office hours are 8am until 10pm, so call soon to get your room reserved or they will be all gone. We do have some discounts at the casino and a few local restaurants to save you even more money.

I CAN NOT SAY THIS ENOUGH, WEEKDAY RIDING IS THE BEST. SMOOTH TRAILS AND LESS TO NO TRAFFIC.

Make sure you STOP when they see the groomers so they can move by. It’s really dangerous to have riders keep moving when the groomers pass. Make sure you wave and show your support. Also, please stay off the ribbon so it will set up, and the trails will stay smoother longer.

Here is a list of the snowmobile trails in this area, are you ready? The Baldwin trails, (146 miles) go west to Reed City and south from here to Newaygo, Irons trails wrap around Wolf Lake and then heads north, east and west for 122 miles and connects to Cadillac and Wellston trails, Cadillac trails connect into the Irons and Wellston trails all the way to Cadillac, then south to Leroy, they groom 124 miles, Wellston trails goes west to connect to Cadillac trails and south to the Irons Trails and west to Freesoil for 68 miles and north to the, Benzie/Manistee trail system. The Pere Marquette trail connects to The Baldwin trail and all the way to Evart and up to Leroy 144 miles, the south Pere Marquette trail goes to Grand Rapids, I think about 140 miles, then north the Benzie/Manistee trail goes all the way to the Maple City another 147 miles I think. Let’s total this up, 146 + 122 + 124 + 68 + 140 + 147 = 747 in groomed connecting trails just in this area alone and we are right in the middle of them. I know most of the groomer operators and their schedules, so if it’s bumpy one way, we know which way to go, to have smooth trails. I don’t know about you but that’s a ton of riding. Now there is more trails to get to, but that would be just over kill and this is not even counting the hundreds of miles of the two tracks and seasonal roads that you can ride. Why spent an extra $200 to $300 in fuel to get to Gaylord or the UP when we have fantastic riding right here.

Remember that the mid week riding is the best, less to no traffic, no lines at the gas pump and you don’t have to worry so much about the crazies coming up the trail at you.

There are over 740 miles of connecting groomed trails that run through this area and surrounding areas, so why would you want to go anywhere else? Plus miles and miles of two tracks and seasonal roads. We have two bedroom lake front rooms with full kitchens, living rooms with a sofa sleeper, (sleeps 6 - $110 a night), double lake front rooms with a queen and full beds and a kitchenette and dining table and chairs (sleeps 4 - $88 a night). Double motel rooms with two double beds and a mini fridge, (sleeps 4 - $59 a night) and single motel rooms with one full bed, (sleeps 2 - $44 a night) and our large Bunk House which has two bed rooms with queen bunk beds and a queen sofa sleeper, full kitchen, full living room, a breakfast bar and a fireplace (sleeps 10 - $ 167 a night). Hi all and Happy Monday! We are hanging on and gonna take this season right to the end! Yeehah! LOts of traffic over the weekend but the groomers were out hard and heavy doing what they could to keep up and THANK YOU to them! Trails are still in good condition! All trails were groomed yesterday but it was too warm for the Bear Lake Spur but they are hoping temps drop enough tonight to get out that way. Yay for the last of the season diehards out there riding yet! ‘FYI:

Just an update this morning,3-26-2013…….I groomed out of the 48 Road Base last night (Monday)….From the 33 Road Parking Lot out to the Pine River on Trail #35 and also the Bristol Trail #358. The trails are ‘almost prime’! There was only one south sloping hill that was ice and dirt, down near State Ride, but I groomed all the way to the Pine River Bridge. Even in the Red Pine areas was very ‘ridable’! If you trailer out to the 33 Road Parking Lot, you’ll get lots of ‘BONUS MILES’ of good riding!?

It was a busy weekend with folks getting in what could be the last ride of the season. Our staging areas situated close to and in the forest were full on Saturday. There was lots of snow in the forest and the groomers had worked hard during the week to keep the trails in shape for the weekend.

The weatherman tells us temperatures could be in the 40’s this week. It certainly didn’t get there today. It was cold enough to groom today and there is still plenty of snow in the woods to do so.

The White Pine Trail is done for the season and the in-town trail is in rough shape. But, there is still plenty of nice riding in the forest. Trailer to one of the staging area listed below ( March 18) and you will be off to a great start. Beware that under the snow is ICE and it is getting closer to the surface every day.

To better access the forest trails, you’ll want to use one of the Staging Areas below:

33 Rd Staging Area–S of M-55–approx.. 3 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Caberfae Staging Area–approx.. 12 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Boon Staging Area–park in plowed area south of Boon Grocery

Note: The porta-a-johns were removed from our staging areas today as our contracts on them expired 3-15-13.

Weather: Remains cool and some light snow.

Trails: Being groomed on a regular basis and are great. Plenty of snow and not a whole lot of traffic right now. Very Good to Excellent overall.
